Eight Precautions for Maintaining Automotive Parts

May 09,2025

In the maintenance and repair of cars, we often worry about accidentally buying counterfeit and unsuitable parts. So, how can I buy qualified and compatible accessories?

Eight points to note when selecting car parts for maintenance and upkeep

1. Check if the trademark identification is complete. The outer packaging quality of authentic products is good, with clear handwriting and vivid overprinting colors on the packaging box. On the packaging box and bag, the product name, specifications, quantity, registered trademark, factory name, address, and telephone number should be marked. Some manufacturers also mark their own accessories. Some important components such as generators, distributors, fuel injection pumps, etc. are also equipped with user manuals, certificates of conformity, and inspector seals to guide users in proper use and maintenance. When making a purchase, it is important to carefully identify and avoid buying counterfeit or inferior products.

2. Check for any deformation in the geometric dimensions. Some parts are prone to deformation due to improper manufacturing, transportation, and storage. During inspection, the shaft type parts can be rolled along the glass plate once to check for any light leakage at the joint between the parts and the glass plate to determine if they are bent; When selecting clutch driven plate steel plates or friction plates, the steel plates and friction plates can be held in front of your eyes to observe whether they are warped; When selecting oil seals, the end face of the oil seal with a skeleton should be perfectly circular and able to adhere to flat glass without bending; The outer edge of the skeleton free oil seal should be straight, and it should be deformed by hand. After releasing it, it should be able to return to its original state. When selecting various types of pads, attention should also be paid to checking the geometric dimensions and shape.

3. Check if the joint is flat. During the handling and storage of spare parts, burrs, indentations, damages or cracks often occur at the joint due to vibration and collision, which affects the use of the parts. Attention should be paid to checking when making a purchase.

4. Check for rust on the surface of the parts. The surface of qualified spare parts has both a certain degree of precision and a shiny finish. The more important the spare parts are, the higher the precision and the stricter the packaging anti rust and anti-corrosion measures. When purchasing, attention should be paid to inspection. If rust spots, mold spots, rubber parts cracking, loss of elasticity, or obvious cutting tool patterns on the surface of the journal are found, they should be replaced.

5. Check if the protective surface is intact. Most parts are coated with a protective layer at the factory. Protect piston pins and bearing shells with paraffin wax; Apply anti rust oil to the surface of piston rings and cylinder liners and wrap them with packaging paper; Immerse valves, pistons, etc. in rust proof oil and seal them in plastic bags. If the sealing sleeve is damaged, packaging paper is lost, rust proof oil or paraffin wax is lost during purchase, it should be returned or exchanged.

6. Check if the bonded parts are loose. Accessories composed of two or more parts, which are pressed, glued, or welded together, must not have any looseness between them. For example, the oil pump plunger and adjusting arm are pressed together; The driven wheel of the clutch is riveted to the steel plate, while the friction plate is riveted or glued to the steel plate; The skeleton of the paper filter element and the filter paper are glued together; The wire ends of electrical equipment are welded together. If looseness is found during purchase, it should be replaced.

7. Check if the rotating parts are flexible. When selecting a rotating component assembly such as an oil pump, rotating the pump shaft by hand should feel flexible and free of jamming; When selecting rolling bearings, support the inner ring of the bearing with one hand and rotate the outer ring with the other hand. The outer ring should be able to rotate quickly and freely, and then gradually stop rotating. If the rotating parts do not rotate properly, it indicates internal corrosion or deformation, and should not be purchased.

8. Check for missing parts in the assembly components. Legitimate assembly components must be complete and in good condition to ensure smooth assembly and normal operation. If some small parts on the assembly components are missing, it will make the assembly components unable to work or even scrapped.
